Microgrant Recipient: Oklahoma State University Library - Teaching Veterans to Tell their Stories

by Janina Siebert on 2022-06-14T15:00:00-05:00 | 0 Comments

On the first Saturdays of February, March and April 2022, Oklahoma State University (OSU) Libraries hosted a monthly 2 hour long writing workshop for veterans. 11 different workshop participants were guided through the creation of written works. Two authors provided submissions which were then compiled into an Open Access (OA) e-book. The format of the workshop was 55 minutes of instruction and preparation, followed by a 10 minute break, then 55 minutes to write. OSU Libraries partnered with OSU Writing Center and English department graduate students to provide workshop attendees with a supportive environment. The workshop team even attended a trauma-informed workshop in preparation for the series. Funds from  the microgrant award helped pay for the graduate student writing consultants, the counseling consultant, an ISBN for the e-book and design of the book cover.
